Does anyone have any first-hand accounts of people who have received
reassignment through this process?
-when the district
called -- first week? second? later?
- whether there was an option to decline
the transfer (I know it's allegedly automatic, but I have heard anecdotes of
people being offered a *choice* of whether to accept/decline)
- what the
process and timing requirements for acceptance were -- was any paperwork or
appearance at either the new school or EPC was required, or whether it was a
simple matter of showing up the next day at the 'new' school?
I read this post and I want to scream! Why oh why are we forced to have to go through this?
ReplyDelete-Called during the second week.
ReplyDelete-No "choice". Already assigned to the new school. I'm sure you could try to go to EPC to change it, but in our case the spot was already filled due to the fact that we were at a top 5 elementary to begin with.
-Show up to the new school the next day, fill out the paperwork, go to class.
Thanks!!!
DeleteOP here -- I very much appreciate an on-topic response. :)
Let's all roll over and play dead. The assignment system makes our lives a living hell, but, heck, let's accept it and start jumping through those hoops. We're all trained dogs in SFUSD's dog and pony show.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless true, we still have to play the game because that is the only game in town. Now, will you let this blog get on with providing info for those that have no choice or do you expect everyone to boycott the lottery and go without an assignment?
DeleteMy child was reassigned during Round 3. I would like to share some thoughts about the process, but it seems like a poor use of time, given the odds that they'll be deleted.
ReplyDeleteSo I'll save you some time:

I would love to hear about your round three reassignment?
DeleteWe got a place mid Oct last year
ReplyDeleteCan you please elaborate? I was told that once we hit two weeks from the first day of school there would be no more transfers until Spring.
DeleteI thought so too but we got the offer and jumped on it
DeleteCan you tell us all which school it was? Thanks much!
DeleteWere you in another public school or in private when you got the offer? Thanks!
DeleteJust letting people know. If you are on the wait list for AVS there may be a spot open for kindergarten. It might be worth a call to see if it is still available.
ReplyDeleteWhat's AVS?
DeleteAlta Vista School
DeleteSFUSD is supposed to publish waitpool numbers today but I can't find that anywhere on their site. Anyone have the link? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking too -- can anyone help? I found the page but it still has the June 11 waitpool doc posted....
DeleteLooks like they only have the one from June 13th still up. Maybe later today?
DeleteI just left the EPC. Their entire computer system is down. Numbers will be posted once they can get things fixed.
DeleteIn addition to taking care of my family and the house, working part-time and caring for my sick father, add driving my kids to school, add to the list another school search because we don't have sibling priority. I'm not a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteLooks like SFUSD has posted their new Waitpool numbers: http://www.sfusd.edu/en/assets/sfusd-staff/enroll/files/2013-14/2013-14_wait_pool_list_07.19.13.pdf
ReplyDeleteIt's not looking hopeful. :-( Our waitpool school's pool grew as did many others.
Yeah, it doesn't really make me feel any better. If anything the situation has gotten worse.
DeleteI just got a phone call from SFUSD saying that movement from the waitpool will not take place until after the third day of school and that we have to decide about any changes to our choice by July 26. Does that mean that the August Round 5 is no longer going to happen?
ReplyDeleteI think Round 4 was the one that was 'locked in' next Friday (July 26) with new letters being sent on like August 9...
Delete...and Round 5 if it was called that is the 'start of school year shuffle'...
but yeah. Same question. Did they just summarily cancel Round 4?
I could see that making sense if for example there were so few known open spots at the moment (e.g. slots from Round 3 that were offered but didn't get formalized because the people offered them didn't act)...
...but would expect a formal statement to that effect!
Fwiw on the list of data here:
Deletehttp://www.sfusd.edu/en/enroll-in-sfusd-schools/apply/overview.html
Round 4 is still shown as happening with letters sent to winners only.
We got the same phone call sometime in the last few days. It was a recording that our voicemail picked up and sure seems to suggest that there isn't a Round 4, only that any changes to assignments will happen after the first week of school, following the third day count.
DeleteVisited EPC today and Round 4 (August round closing this Friday July 26) IS indeed still happening. Only those placed during Round 4 will be notified.
DeleteAfter that comes the much more active 'Round 5' placement that happens when no-shows are tallied after the first 3 days of school. Calls will begin to those on the wait pool starting on August 26 (Monday of the second week of school).
