K Files is Back! What happened with the wait pool??

We'll provide more details in the coming weeks but happily K Files is Back!

I heard from EPC that they did a 3 day count this year.  On Thursday, I understand that they did a computer run and came-up with their call list, making calls Thursday and Friday.  Transfers are automatic; meaning the family does not get to choose whether or not to accept the transfer.  Did anyone get a call?  Anyone still waiting for a spot?

  1. I called EPC yesterday (Fri, 8/24/12) to check on my child's wait pool status. EPC told me that they would not notify families until Mon, 8/27/12, either by phone or USMail.

  2. How will they notify you if you got into a school? I thought the waiting pool was to be emptied out on August 27?

  3. oh Wow - I thought they started calling on late Thursday/Friday. 8/25 - What school are you waiting for? How did it go in your assigned school this week?

  4. I am waiting on new traditions, our neighborhood school, did not receive any call as of Friday. There are 11 kids in this waiting pool. Has anyone received a call?

  5. We're also still waiting. (Alvarado, Spanish immersion, in our case.) No call as of Sunday, Aug. 26.

  6. We're waiting on Feinstein kindergarten. 13 on the wait list, but there were 88 seats this year, so hoping for more than a few no-shows. No call or mail yet from SFUSD.

On a side note, the Waiting Pool process seems just as confusing as the rest of the enrollment process. The first deadline to submit a wait pool request was 5/30, but then you had until 7/20 to submit or change your wait poll request, so 5/30 wasn't really a deadline at all. Then, today I noticed on the SFUSD site that 8/17 was a deadline for the "8/27 Waiting Pool period." WHAT 8/27 WP period?!! Was I supposed to submit something else by 8/17, or is my original WP application all they way back from 5/30 still valid?

  9. 8/17 was the deadline to make a change to your wait pool school. If you did not change your mind, you can ignore this date.

I spent 4 hours at EPC today, there are schools like New Traditions that have are fully enrolled as of the 3 day count and parents on wait pool have not received calls/or letters since there are no offers to be made.

There is still time for some movement in the next few days. You have until 31 st to transfer, so there is a small chance that an available spot. If you want to know more information on your WP school, I recommend heading to EPC, at least you may be able to transfer your child to a school with low wait pool numbers.

  10. Was at the education center this morning ( my 9th trip) and waited sitting in the room with a fever. If you saw a woman sweating, it was me. The stress has made me get sick. I heard that the lottery was not done on Friday. It was being done today because there was some computer/open seat count issue. Calls were supposed to go out today. I wonder if they did as I know of no one that got a call. Although I only know 1 person who is in wait pool for a school and she heard nothing today. When it started getting late, I called like 20 times and hit peoples voice mail boxes that were full. My understanding is the waitpool is active until Friday. I am waiting for our neighborhood school on the map Sherman first grade. I have no backup plan except to
    beg my way into private.

  11. SF public Montessori has 4 spaces for K. I just attended a welcome to school meeting and was delighted with the school. If you are interested, head down to EPC and your child can start the following day.

  13. Went back at 730 and got in line this morning at education center. Was told the lottery did not happen yesterday but was happening today because they needed to reconfirm open seats before call would be made. Call are to come in today.

  14. ok so - has anyone heard anything? Anyone going to the EPC today? Since it's Wednesday of the second week, I would expect calls to start today (I believe that is when calls started last week). I also heard from a neighbor that there were spaces in Buena Vista in Kinder

  15. Clearly some parents have received calls. There were 5 new kindergarten students at my son's school this morning. (All were in the August wait pool.) Anyone know if EPC is done w/calls or if they're ongoing?

  17. So at this point, people who are still on the waitlist are just waiting to see if the people who got calls end up dropping their spots, which they have until Friday to release.

  18. I got a call tonight. You are automatically transferred and go to the new school the next day.

  19. If you're looking for grades higher than first, I'd say you should go to the EPC asap. We didn't get our waitpool school but the school we almost waitpooled had a spot available and we accepted it on the spot. We're still a bit in shock about it. Our child will start there on Tuesday.

  21. Was offered 2 spots for K att new traditions on Friday at 3:15pm. After thinking it over and running over to the school, we decided to pass since my kids love their teacher at Public Montessori. This wait pool process was excruciating.

More calls will be made on Tuesday, I believe they will go down the wait list of 11 kids until they fill the 4 or 5 spots available at NT. NT is a small school with amazing teachers. I went down to look at the school and was still impressed with what I saw.

  22. as I posted on the new thread, we got a spot yesterday the 6th at 10:50 am for a trophy school spot (higher grade).

  23. This pains me, but after going through all the lottery rounds this summer and wait lists, two weeks into school we got a trophy assignment for our kindergartern. But no change for our older two children at the same school. We gave the spot up despite strong misgivings. I'm sure someone else is happy about our choice.
