Share your public school lists!
Public school applications are due Friday, January 27. Feel free to share your school lists in the comments. Which schools are your top picks? Which schools are your back-ups?
Top picks, in order: Dianne Feinstein Commodore Sloat West Portal
Second Tier: McKinley (in 2nd tier because of feeder to Everett) Sunnyside (in 2nd tier because my older daughter had a not great experience there, but the school is changing...)
Backup: Junipero Serra (our neighborhood school)
We decided that for our family, we'll schlep clear across the city (or close to it) for a school we love, but not for a school that seems like a so-so match for our child.
1. Rooftop - Closest within walking distance 2. Clarendon - Neighborhood School not walking distance 3. Alvarado - Close within walking distance 4. Alvarado Language Immersion Pathway - Within Walking Distance 5. Gratton - Within Walking Distance
6. Aragonne – No transportation 7. Alamo – No Transportation 8. Clarendon Language Immersion Pathway - Not walking
9. West Portal – Need to take 2 buses 10. Peabody - Need to take 2 buses
11. Lilienthal - Far away school Korean 12. Sherman - Far Away good school
13. Marshall - Need to take 2 buses
13. Fairmount – No Transportation 14. Jefferson – No Transportation 15. Miraloma – No Transportation

Our strategy was to list all schools within a radius of our house that is logistically feasible. Then we added a bunch of non-preference choices we assume will be high on other people's lists to increase our chances of swapping up. We're CTIP2.
We understand Argonne Elem is a good school and it is the one in our attendance zone but for a number of reasons year round does not work for us. Does anyone know if we would be considered for the zones adjacent to ours? Thanks.

This whole thing is ridiculous. You should be able to go to your neighborhood school.
ReplyDelete10:16 you are probably going to need to tour the outer sunset
ReplyDeleteSure -- you can go into the lottery like anyone else for surrounding schools, but you'll get no priority over other "out of neighborhood" kids.
ReplyDeleteI was actually surprised to see that Argonne is a neighborhood/attendance area school given its year-round schedule.
In earlier discussions, Monroe, in the inner Richmond, south of Geary, had available slots. Tour that school as well as the outer Sunset.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Alamo. Great, great school. Personal favorite.
ReplyDeleteMonroe is in the excelsior...
