Advertise your school's welcome meeting!

Readers have suggested that we start a thread to advertise schools' welcome meetings. Here's a post! Please share dates, times, and web links in the comments.

Below are details on welcome meetings at New Traditions and Sunnyside to start us off!

New Traditions
I was wondering if you are going to post school welcome meetings for new families. We would like to publicize ours to the new families entering New Traditions in August 2011. Here is our information:

New Traditions is holding a welcome meeting for new families on Tuesday, April 5 at 9:45am in the school library with Principal Agudelo. We will be serving coffee and baked goods. We hope our new families can join us!

We also want to invite all our new families to the New Traditions Carnival and Silent Auction on Saturday, May 7 from 11am-4pm. This is a family-friendly event and will take place at the school.

Welcome to all families that got a spot at Sunnyside Elementary for 2011-2012. We'd like to let you know about a few key dates coming up in April:

Tours will be offered on April 5 and 12 at 9 am.

A Welcome Reception will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 10 am.

  1. San Francisco Community School will be hosting a new family welcome on Sunday, May 1st from 1-3. Please come and join us for snacks, lemonade, and to meet new friends, parents and staff!

    We will also be hosting a number of summer playdates at neighborhood parks. You will be contacted if you have registered at our school.

  2. Jose Ortega will be hosting a Welcome Breakfast Saturday, April 16th at 10am. Please come, bring the whole family! This will be a great chance to meet the principle, staff, current and incoming parents!

  3. Argonne Elementary will be hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten playdate in mid-July, date is still TBD. Invites will go out via USPS and also via email. Come join the fun and meet other new families, existing families, the K teachers, and principal.   4. Welcome to Glen Park Elementary!

    The Glen Park Parent-Teacher Organization invites all newly assigned families to attend a special event on April 9th from 10am - 12p at our school.   6. Hi, did anyone out there get assigned to Harvey Milk as their neighborhood school with the new boundaries for 2011 and if so, will you enroll your child? There isn't much on here about this school and I was curious to get input from other families. It is our assigned school and we are hoping other kids from our neighborhood will be going as well.

  8. Hi 2:55am

    I am not in Kinder yet, but I've been trying like crazy to get info on Harvey Milk since it will be our neighborhood school for 2012 when we try for Kindergarden.

    Have you tried getting in touch with the Principle? It seems they are not doing a lot of outreach in the neighborhood, but they should since the feedback I get from parents there I've talked with (only at Milk events) is very positive. I also tried to get info from Eureka Valley Parents Yahoo Group (are you a member? please join so we can start a movement) but am still waiting to hear anything.

    I think we could continue to make this school great by bringing more neighborhood kids to it since we can donate money and time to great programs. The School focuses on Civil rights, so they might be worried about losing the low-SES kids with the increased neighborhood kids. Something I think the Principle should be asked.

    I hear that this year, it's 20% neighborhood kids. I imagine for 2011-2012 it could be even greater if the parents could connect. Join the Eureka Valley Parents group and let's try to get movement going to go to Milk!

  9. SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMS AT SANCHEZ ELEMENTARY:

    Welcome to all prospective parents assigned to Sanchez!! Principal Raymond Isola and current parent representatives will hold an informational session and school tour on Wednesday April 6 from 8-9 am. All prospective parents and parents who have Sanchez as their neighborhood school are invited to hear about Sanchez and discuss the school’s different instructional pathways. A new General Education Pathway is starting with the potential for Spanish language classes as part of the after-school enrichment program. We will also explore the potential for converting this GE pathway into a dual-language Spanish immersion pathway.

  11. Welcome Marshall Elementary Families—

    Incoming Kindergarten events are still TBD, but in the meantime please save the following dates:

    April PTA Meeting –Wednesday, April 27, 6-7:30 pm. Parents and Incoming Kindergarteners are welcome to attend our last PTA meeting of the year. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Please RSVP to escuelamarshall@gmail.com or call 241-6280 and note the name of your child.

    Marshall’s “Día de los Niños” Event – Saturday, April 30, 11am – 5 pm.
    Come join the Marshall community for a day of family fun and help raise money for Marshall’s PTA. The day will include food, games, entertainment, a Marshall talent show, raffle and silent auction.

    Details on the Kindergarten “Back-to-School” night and summer playdates will be sent soon.

    Marshall currently has some open seats for Kindergarten, so if you are interested in Spanish Immersion, come check us out for Round 2.

    April 29th We invite you to join Principal Jeanne Dowd at her monthly “Chat” meeting on April 29th from 9-10 am. Incoming parents are welcome to meet with our principal and current families to ask questions and learn more about our school. Note: This will not be a tour of the school/classes or meeting with the Kindergarten teachers - just a chance to meet our principal/parents in our community.

    April 30th Rainbow-A-Fair. Fun filled day of games, prizes, activities and food in our school yard! Please join us from 11-3 for this fun day!!

    May 6th Kindergarten Assessment. At this orientation, you will receive valuable information to help transition your child into a full day of school. We will also make recommendations for activities you can do at home over the next few months to better prepare your child for the start of school. In addition, you will have an opportunity to share information with us about your child. We plan to use this information, and results gathered from a brief, informal assessment to make the best possible classroom placement for your child. More information will be sent out via mail in the coming weeks.

    May 21st Green Up Clean Up. Come help clean up the garden and school grounds as we prepare for the end of the year. Sign up for a week of gardening during the summer too! 10-2 in the school yard.

    Summer Playdates- June, July, and August playdates will be scheduled for the Commodore Sloat playground during the summer. Meet incoming and current families. More information on dates coming soon!

  14. Does anyone know anyone at Cesar Chavez Elementary? How are we supposed to take our assignment as a serious offer if the principal/PTA doesn't at least offer a welcome, come-get-to-know-us event? Or is it posted somewhere that I missed?

  15. Welcome to Junipero Serra!

    We are excited that you will be joining our vibrant school community. Please join us on April 18 at 9:30 am in the cafeteria for a welcome coffee and refreshments. We’ll also offer a brief tour of the school at that time.

    The school year doesn’t start until August 15th but there are many opportunities for you to get to know other J. Serra families and get involved with the school:

    PTA meetings are the third Wednesday of the month at 6pm in the school library. Spanish translation is provided.

    Cinco de Mayo Festival/ Kermess: On Friday, May 6 we will have a festival and fundraiser at the school. It will start with a performance by Aztec dancers at 12:30 followed by a huge selection of amazing homemade food for sale and a variety of games and activities hosted and run by the teachers, students and parents. The festival will continue until 6:30/7:00pm.

    Dance performance: On May 26, the 4th and 5th graders will perform the Indian dance routine they have been working on all year in preparation for their performance at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

    We are also planning a family gardening day, play date and back-to-school potluck during the summer. An official Kindergarten orientation will be held several weeks before school starts.
