Check out the new reader forum

If you haven't already noticed, the SF K Files is now using a three-column format and on the left-hand side of the page you'll find a reader forum. In the past readers have emailed me "hot topics" and questions about schools that they'd like answered by readers. Now, I'm hoping readers can start using the forum and post their own questions and topics. Also, please feel free to share news of events and interesting articles on schools in this area.

The forum is a work-in-progress so if you have suggestions for ways to improve it, please share.

Thanks!

Kate

  1. The forums is a good idea but it needs much more time to work on it.

  2. I find it hard to navigate and the layout is unattractive.

  4. First off, your blog is great. Second, the difficulty with the community forum is that there is so many posts (not a lot of responses) and they are not organized by topic. I am also not sure that the community forum adds to the blog. IMHO it was better when only the moderator posted topics. Is there away to organize the topics (coummnity and otherwise) into something like Admissions, Private Schools, Public Schools, Coummunity Events, Fundraising so that you can set filters to only see the topics you are interested in?

  5. Also, if it could be broken up by K admissions, grades 1-5, middle school and high school that would be helpful.

  6. Thank you for the suggestions. I think we could definitely add more categories to the forum. Great idea, and I'll work on this. Also, the overall design is a work in progress and will change in the next month or so. As for continuing with the old system where readers sent emails and then I posted them, I just don't have the bandwidth to keep up with this in a timely manner. Often, I'm posting hot topics several days after readers email them to me. A forum allows readers to immediately throw their idea out to the group. Hopefully, in time the forum will become more robust. Please keep the feedback coming...this helps!

  7. Topics would be good and instead of all of the text in the middle column, perhaps more of a headline..some of the posts are really lengthy and make it hard to scroll down to see what you are interested in.
