Advertise your tours!
Many schools are hosting special tours for families who went 0/7. Please feel free to advertise your tours and events in the comments. Also, feel free to make pitches for schools that might make good choices in Round II.
Argonne, 18th Avenue between Balboa and Cabrillo, is having a tour this Thursday at 8:45. Meet at the office. Tour is geared to assigned families making up their minds about accepting the offer, but anyone considering the school is welcome.
Starr King Elementary School will be having more school tours this week and next. Please come and see our dynamic school in action and learn about our programs, core values, enrichments and parent led initiatives.
Tour Dates: Thursdays - March 18th and March 25th Time: 9am Please call the school at 695-5797 to register your appointment.
Round II Parents, I'm a parent volunteer at Rosa Parks and give school tours. Like many Round II parents, I was in your shoes a year ago. I’d love to share with you my experiences and show you Rosa Parks first hand. Together with a group of parent volunteers, we are giving a school tour on Wednesday, March 24th at 7:50-9:30am starting in the School Yard.
We also have a tour on Friday, March 19th. This tour will be in Japanese. This tour will start at 9am and meet at the school office. The tour will be led by three of our parents who are fluent in Japanese.
If you'd like to attend either tour, please call the Rosa Parks office at 415-749-3519.
As if anyone is going to get Miraloma in Round II, puh-leaze. It is going to fill up with the waitpool for sure. I mean, nice of them to offer a tour, but really, it's sort of offering a false hope.
I think it is great that schools are having tours.
What I find really annoying are the "get-togethers" that are already happening. C'mon - it's March. Can we at least wait until May when preschool is coming to a close and we have gotten through round II of the assignment system?
Rosa Parks is a terrific Round 2 option. They have a committed parent community that is making an effort to offer tours. Definitely worth checking out!
The get togethers often help to retain families assigned to any given school. Wouldn't knowing that several like-minded families are assigned to the same school make you think twice about registering at a school you didn't expect to get assigned to as a security measure? Or help to reinforce a sense of belonging and fit for your family about a choice you made several months ago?
Fairmount has New Family Welcome Table set up each day of First Round Registration. It's just outside the main office. A PTA member should be staffing it from 8:15 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and informational packets for new families will be available all day.
If any parent got assigned Fairmount and is still on the fence or wishes to waitlist Fairmount, they are welcomed to come and talk with a PTA representative during those times.
Presently, there are no new tours being planned, but if demand for one were high, we may be able to arrange it.
Jose Ortega's new family welcome breakfast is this Friday, March 19th, from 8:30-9:30. The principal and parents will speak, students will perform and there will be a tour of the school. We also have tours on Tuesday mornings at 8:00. The tours are open to everyone. Please call (415) 469-4726 to schedule a tour. Please also check out our joyful school at http://joseortegaschool.org.
Harvey Milk's school auction is this Saturday from 12:00 - 5:00 at the school - please come and check out the parent community and this great annual fundraiser!
Called Lafayette today to see if it will have any tours in the coming weeks. Was told that because of the budget cuts, the school is reluctant to offer tours right now. If there is anyone associated with Lafayette here, please try to change their minds.
Why would they be reluctant to offer a tour? It's not like the school is closing?? FYI, New Traditions is planning on having a tour some time next week. I was told they would get back to me and let me know the details.
Regarding Lafayette's lack of tours - I got the sense that they did not want to introduce parents to teachers who got pink slips and may not be there in August.
Glen Park is having another tour next Tuesday at 9:30 am. Call the school if you are interested or if you'd like to see the school and can't make the date.
I'm the Glen Park Ambassador and I'll be at the Saturday Round Two counseling session if anyone wants to talk about it and I think our PTO President will be at the session this week. Good Luck!
There has been some confusion about the enrollment process for SY 2010-2011 for the SFUSD Public Montessori Program. Round 2 can help straighten out any glitches. If you are still interested in applying and have questions -- whether your child has prior Montessori experience or would be new to Montessori -- please contact our parent group at our website: www.sfpublicmontessori.org. Please look at the SFUSD FAQ specifically addressing enrollment in our program posted on the district website, www.sfusd.edu, click on enrollment, for further information. The Montessori Parent Leadership Team is available for assistance in negotiating the system, and is happy to show you our program.
Robert Louis Stevenson is having a fundraiser/potluck this Friday, March 19th, from 6 to 8 pm. Lots of cool stuff getting auctioned off! Please come check out this wonderful school in the Sunset!
Commodore Sloat Elementary will be holding a tour this Tuesday, 3/23 at 9 AM. Meet in front of the office area. Our tour guide will be there to greet, show you around and answer any questions you might have! Please call our school office to notify us that you are coming: 415-759-2807
Creative Arts Charter School will have 1 remaining tour on Friday, May 7 from 8:45-10:15. For more info and to sign up, please call the school: 415-759-3509 or check the website for more information.
Paul Revere will do an additional tour for parents that might be interested in the school for round II, but didn't have a chance to join a tour in the November - December timeframe. Tour is at 9 am on Wednesday March 24th, convening in the hall of the Annex building, across from the main building at 555 Tompkins Av. in Bernal Heights. For information, please contact parent liaison Anabel Ibanez (415.695.5974) or ibaneza@sfusd.edu
Is there anything coming up for new families at New Traditions? Round 2 tours coming up? We've enrolled, but I'm finding it a bit challenging to get a feel for it, maybe due to the late start time.
Miraloma (not a miraloma parent) is having a tour this thursday geared toward Round II interested people.
