Hot topic: Upcoming school events

An SF K Files visitor would like to start the following thread:
How about a topic where people can list the upcoming events for their school... could be a boon to incoming and prospective parents. I know McKinley has Dogfest coming up, Paul Revere is having a greening event and other things to welcome new families. If they were all listed under one topic, they might be easier to find. Any thoughts?

  1. McKinley is also have a Welcome Breakfast for families assigned to our school and for those interested in checking us out. It will be on Tuesday March 24th from 8:15am to about 9:15. This is a great time to chat with current parents and meet other families in your child's cohort. Incoming students will get paired up with a K student for an activity

  3. If you are exploring your options for SFUSD Round II, please come tour Daniel Webster Elementary. We are located in sunny Potrero Hill, and house the district's newest Spanish-immersion school. This is a "hidden gem" that has received a lot of attention, support and funding from the Potrero Resident's Education Fund. We're one of the up-and-coming schools mentioned in sf magazine and are on other radars as well.

I am NOT sure how many slots, if any, are available for English-dominant kinders in the immersion program. I believe there might be some spots for Spanish-dominant kinders, but I defer to SFUSD enrollment on this.

Hope to see you there: 465 Missouri Street (at 20th Street).

Wear your sunscreen; we've got the best weather in The City :)

    Lisa (Tommy, DW kinder)

  6. Welcome to all new Miraloma kids and families!

Miraloma will have 3 welcome playdates as follows:

    - Sunday, April 5, 10 am - 12 pm (PLEASE NOTE: the date is incorrect on the welcome letter you received when you registered. The letter says it's on April 12, which is Easter. That is a typo. The correct date is April 5. You should get a postcard in the mail shortly confirming this date). The welcome committee will provide bagels and coffee. Come play and meet other Miraloma families!

    - Sunday, May 17, 1 pm - 3 pm. This is a potluck event -- if you want, bring a snack to share.

    - Sunday, June 14, 1 pm - 3 pm. Potluck.

All three playdates will be at the city Miraloma playground right next to the school on Omar Way -- informally called "Sandy Park."

Also, if you'd like to stop by the school this week, join us for the weekly Friday morning singalong tomorrow morning. It is every Friday from 8 to 8:30 am in the auditorium.

    Other upcoming events:

    - Miraloma Spring Festival -- Sunday, April 19, 12 pm to 3 pm on the schoolyard for fun, games, food and music.

This year we are targeting to raise $40,000 to support these programs.

See what items we're offering so far on our web site!

  11. Well, this may not be the type event you had in mind, but: Last weekend of the fantastic run of School of the Arts' production of "The Wedding Singer," a musical romp through the decadent '80s.

Performances tonight (Friday, 3/20), 7:30 p.m., and tomorrow (Saturday, 3/21), 2 and 7:30 p.m., on the SOTA Main Stage, 555 Portola @ O'Shaughnessy. It's a lot of fun but has raunchy parts, so parent alert. (It has a nice moral message, actually, though, so it doesn't celebrate decadence.)
