Congrats, Kate, on this milestone achieved. Sweet picture; nice to see a smile. (I myself refused to smile for my own first-day-of-school photo, lo these many years ago.)
My daughter did great. She was greeted by her new teacher who gave her a great big hug, followed by a tour of the playground, library and music room. She actually waved us away! I, on the other hand, was a mess. ;)They are so grown up.
We're a whole year away from our eldest starting kindergarten, and yet that photo made me weepy.Uh oh....Can't wait to hear how her first day went...
Hi Kate, this is such a beautiful photo. She looks adorable and really proud, I hope it is all you hoped for and more.
Wonderful photo--thanks for sharing! Another poster suggested taking a photo of your child in front of the school mural each new year to document his/her development. This sounds like a great idea.
Congratulations! What a sweet, adorable picture. Best wishes for a wonderful year ahead.
After the long and arduous journey through the lottery system and endless analysis and considerations, our daughter arrived at Starr King Mandarin this morning. Phew! I can't wait to pick her up, but I'm sure she's doing okay now if completely mystified by this language he teacher is speaking!
Is there a way we can post a gallery of first day photos in here?
She looks a lot better than my son did, I'll tell you that much! After not seeming very nervous before now, my poor baby looked pretty overwhelmed and terrified on the school yard with all the big kids running around this morning. But I'm sure he's fine, as they all will be.
I'm so jealous!!! not in a bad way. No school yet, but am really interested in how ever ones first day was, please post your kids reactions and thoughts. We will never have quite this experience so i'm living through my bloggers lives!
Nice to read happy stories.
school started off great last week...private catholic...this week...hitting on playground...
First day of MIDDLE school!Fast forward for many of you -- my son started at Aptos Middle School today. They did a wonderful job orienting kids and parents alike on this first day. My son said school was 'awesome' and was really excited about school and catching up with new and old friends. He chattered happily all the way home. What was hilarious for me was noting how many of the parents I recognized from kindergarten tours from 7 years ago! Also, so many kids and parents I recognized from the years at Camp Mather, Acrosports, soccer, PPS, etc. etc. It reinforces my feeling that eventually, you really DO know EVERY parent with a kid in your grade in San Francisco! It's a small town!It was also exciting to see some new but familiar faces at our welcome breakfast at Miraloma Elementary (you know who you are!) and especially wonderful to see that it really IS working out for some folks! Whew!Good luck to everyone in this new school year.Lorraine Woodruff-Long
She looks very cute. What happened to the other dress?
Who will be around when some of us get school assignments in October/November??
We sent our son off to his first day of high school (he takes the #1bus up Sacramento St. to Washington High, home of the Mighty Eagles). But I reminisced about his first day of kindergarten nine years ago......the parents cried more than the children. It was a beautiful occasion.
Echoing Lorraine, my daughter had a great first day at Aptos Middle School yesterday and is very excited about the new challenges and expectations. Also, it is so true about recognizing/knowing so many faces by this point in the journey.
My daughter had a great first day yesterday at Starr King (Mandarin Immersion). She lined up like such a big girl in her classroom's line and looked back at me--trying my best not to rush back up to her for one more kiss--and smiled a huge confident smile. That's something for my shy girl. At the end of the day she said, "Mama, I understood EVERYTHING my teacher said! AND I talked to the Principal five times! What's his name again? It sounds like 'hamburger'....I had a good day, mom." For the record, the principal there is Mr. Rosenberg. My girl never cried. I did, though.--Bernal Single Mom
Does anyone have a first day of school story for Daniel Webster? We saw kids walking over on Monday and were wondering how it went. The school is getting quite a nice paint job!
